REALISM IN BRONZE
GEORGINA WINCH: WILDLIFE SCULPTURIST
ABOUT GEORGINA WINCH
Georgina Winch is a fine artist and wildlife sculpturist specialising in landscape, plant and animal painting, drawing and limited edition bronze sculpture.
She graduated with distinction from Port Elizabeth Technikon in 1995 majoring in sculpture.
While abroad she free-lanced extensively in two highly regarded fine art bronze casting foundries gaining invaluable knowledge of the entire process, bronzes potential and versatility.
She is possibly the finest wildlife sculpturist in bronze in Zimbabwe.

SUBJECT MATTER AND ART MEDIUMS
Now with a studio in Bulawayo, Georgina is concentrating on bronze sculpture looking at an animal’s particular characteristics, vitality and personality to determine what gestural treatment and patination that will create the actions and tenuousness of the moment best.
Currently she is exploring the subject of cattle, a subject close to her heart and is enjoying portraying the distinctive qualities of particularly hardy African breeds such as the Afrikander, the Nguni and the elaborately horned Ankole from East Africa.
She paints in oils, pastels and acrylic and has experimented with wax and mixed media. Two dimensional drawing and painting is a process of exploring and understanding forms and movement which has a direct relevance on her sculpture.
She has become aware of the desire for the less obvious portrayal of African Fauna and Flora and has done pen and ink studies of cattle, particularly trek oxen and multi-coloured native cattle.
She is a keen gardener and is inspired by aloes and succulents which are very sculptural and she relishes the feeling of generously applied oil, the positive and negative shapes and shadows formed by their strong structure in a composition.
She has a variety of work available in subject, size and medium priced to hopefully accommodate all customers.
